Good with dogs: Yes
Good with cats: Unknown
Good with kids: yes
Weight: 50 pounds
Name: Lacy
Estimate Age: 1 year

Ideal Family: Lacy would do best in a home with a calm, confident dog who can continue to show her the ropes. She is doing great in her foster home but occasionally needs a little encouragement when experiencing new things (the dishwasher is still pretty scary, for instance). She also enjoys lazily wresting on the floor and would enjoy a playmate. Because she thrives on attention and affection Lacy would prefer a home with someone who works reduced hours or is retired. She loves cuddling on the couch, getting belly rubs and giving kisses. Although not a necessity Lacy does enjoy interacting with children; when her human foster brother cries she lies down next to him and gives him kisses to try to make him feel better. Due to her calm demeanor and sweet nature she would likely make a phenomenal therapy dog. Because Lacy was found as a stray on the reservation we are recommending a home with a fully fenced yard.

How did I get to Pet Haven: Lacy was found as a stray on Red Lake Reservation. Initially in the care of Red Lake Rosie’s, she was then transported to the cities and placed in the care of Pet Haven. She is adapting well to living in a home environment and loves being part of a family.

Hobbies: Lacy’s favorite hobby is snuggling with her foster parents and visitors. She melts when you pet her and, despite her 50 pounds, is convinced she is a lap dog. If you stop petting her she will gently nudge your hand with her nose and look up at you with her big brown eyes. She also enjoys napping on her dog bed and learning new commands (especially if performing said commands involves cheese).

Commands/Tricks: Lacy is learning sit, down, come and stay. Although her history is unknown and likely doesn’t involve much training, she is eager to learn and very intelligent. She also seems to know how to fetch, although she isn’t always interested in this as she usually prefers to stay by your side. As she settles in and realizes that she is a permanent family member I think her interest in playing fetch will increase.

Crate/Potty Trained: Lacy is very good about going in her kennel and chooses to kennel herself intermittently throughout the day. She will whine for a short time if she is crated when she knows you are home (i.e. at night) but this doesn’t last very long. She has picked up potty training like a pro and has not had even one accident in her foster home!

Activity Level: Low/moderate. When inside Lacy likes to either be in her bed or snuggling with her foster family. Occasionally when she goes outside, however, she likes to romp around the yard.

Fun things I do: Lacy enjoys collecting toys. Okay, some might call it hoarding. She is very gentle with her toys and don’t really play with them yet, but she seems to enjoy their company while she sleeps.

Socialization/who I currently live with: Lacy currently live with her foster mom and dad, a tiny human (11 months), and the resident dog, a 5-year old female pit mix. Although her previous living situation is unknown she seems quite comfortable around children (all ages) and doesn’t react to loud play or crying. As she is still somewhat timid she would likely benefit from living with a confident older dog who can show her the ropes.

Lacy will be attending certain adoption events, please check in advance to determine whether she will be attending. She will also be doing individual meet and greets. Her adoption fee is $320 (cash or check only) and includes spay/neuter, heartworm check, current vaccinations, and microchip and registration. Due to post-adoption services provided, it is Pet Haven's policy to only place dogs into homes within a 60-mile radius of the Twin Cities area.
