Hello, I'm ROSCOE!

I am an APBT mix about 3 years old, medium sized muscular but a little underweight (~45 lbs, ), medium energy, walk great on a leash, low prey drive but I do like to sniff, I appear house trained, love car rides, and my PK buddy says I am smart, sweet, patient and gentle. Outside of my pen at the shelter I am not a jumper or a barker. I am sorry to tell you this is not how I appear in my pen, BUT DON"T STOP READING I AM A DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH. The thing is I was totally terrified when I first arrived at the shelter (a stressful place for any animal) earlier this year so I look like a different dog in my pen, but as soon as I leave the shelter I AM A REALLY GREAT LOW KEY SMART SWEET DOG...those bad habits of pacing/barking in my pen all disappear. My human PK buddy ( a volunteer who spends extra time with me, takes me on outings etc.) says this is the only reason I haven't been adopted yet!

I am looking for a calm predictable yet confident household of adults/maybe low key mature teenagers will be best. Younger kids are generally unpredictable and alot more busy, so that would be a little too much for me right now. I do love going on new adventures and meeting new people as long as I get slow patient intro's to everything: places, things, people, dogs...its all new to me. If you go too fast with me I get overwhelmed and start to shut down but I am getting so much better. So far I have done great at various parks in the Lehigh Valley, at my human PK buddies house and office, meeting new people and dogs and even chickens!....I just need someone to take their time with me and encourage me. And then after the adventure I like to come inside and curl up for a snuggle and a snooze, I don't like to be out tooooo long, especially if its raining or snowing (typical bully breed!). I just want to be a part of someone's life and I will thank you FOREVER!!

Did I mention I was smart?? I know sit, paw and wait. I take food gently and you can stick your hand in my bowl. I am hungry, this anxiety thing is making me loose weight, but I am a total gentleman about food. I am working on down, give and leave it. My "N" "O" word is "ahah" and we almost never have to use it and I stop right away when we do! I don't appear to be a repeat offender or a troublemaker of any kind outside of the shelter and I totally thrive with positive reinforcement.

And, if you haven't noticed I am a real looker......totally adorable with a sleek shiny black coat, 4 white socks, one black and one white eye (hello Petey!)...and a few polkadots on my head. Adorable! When I first arrived at PK I didn't really know what this "affection" thing was all about, my tail spent a lot of time under my belly and I was very tense with human touch...BUT NOT ANYMORE.....once I know you and after a slow intro at my pace, I loves me some pats and I have a waggy tail and a wiggle butt and I know how to give out way too many free kisses.

A well balanced equal sized or larger low to medium energy doggie might be more than ok with an appropriate slow intro. We can cat test if you have kitties, I don't really seem interested in the kitty room at the shelter. All adult dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for parasites along with microchipped and current with vaccinations.

Adoptions are held every Saturday from 10am-3pm at our shelter (1049 Macarthur Road in Whitehall across the street from the old Lehigh Valley Dairy)
