Alternative Humane Society of Whatcom County

PO Box 2321

Our Mission

The Alternative Humane Society is an all volunteer animal welfare association.  It is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit.  AHS is not a shelter.  There is no physical location, office, or regular hours.  AHS operates a limited admission dog foster and adoption program.  All dogs live in foster homes.  AHS also issues spay/neuter vouchers for dogs and cats to qualifying individuals.

Adoption Policy

AHS does not do same-day adoptions. We provide a form called a “Statement of Interest” for potential adopters to fill out. When completed, this form is reviewed by an AHS volunteer (the animal’s Case Manager) who will contact any potential adopter with any additional questions and arrange a meeting if it looks like a good match. The potential adopter usually hears back from a volunteer within 1-2 weeks.
The case manager will only be contacting SOI that our might be a good fit and will arrange a meet and greet.
