Our Mission

At Harlingen Animal Shelter, we believe that every animal deserves a chance at happiness and a loving family. With this belief guiding us, our dedicated team of nine full-time staff members and two part-time staff members work to care for our animals, coordinate meaningful adoptions, engage our community through social media, and do everything within our power to ensure our furry friends find loving homes they deserve.

Adoption Policy

We recommend visiting the Harlingen Animal Shelter in person or viewing available animals on the City of Harlingen website or official Facebook page to see animals listed as strays that may be looking for their owners, as well as animals available for adoption. If you see an animal you are interested in adopting, you may visit the shelter to complete an adoption application, or an application may be mailed to the shelter for review. All applications are reviewed by shelter staff, and once approved, the adopter will be required to sign an adoption contract. By signing the adoption contract, the adopter agrees to: Have the animal spayed or neutered, if not already altered Pay the required adoption fee If the adopter is renting a residence, Harlingen Animal Shelter staff will verify with the landlord or property manager that pets are allowed at the property prior to finalizing the adoption.
