The Gulf Coast Humane Society is the largest no kill animal shelter in South Texas.
We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, no-kill animal shelter that houses and cares for hundreds of adoptable dogs and cats. We were founded on January 15th, 1945 by a group of animal lovers with Frances Weil leading the cause.
In April of 1998, we began operating out of our current facility which was donated to us by Tom and Cora Keeler.
Dogs and Puppies: $150-$500
Kittens under 1 year old: $60
Cats over 1 year old: $50
All animals that have been at GCHS for over 1 year have had their adoption fees generously sponsored by our board. When you adopt a sponsored dog, you must purchase their first 6 months of heartworm prevention ($30-$50 depending on weight).
All of our adoptable animals are up to date on vaccinations, spayed/neutered, de-wormed, and free of parasites such as fleas and ticks.
Upon adoption, new pet parents are sent home with their new dog's first 6 months of heartworm prevention, a starter bag of food, and a voucher for a free wellness exam at participating veterinarians.
Cats are sent home with a starter bag of food and a wellness exam voucher. A temporary transportation box is also provided.
