Our Mission

Here at Red Fern, our mission is simple: NO MORE HOMELESS ANIMALS!

Our mission is simple, but it is far from easy.

-Spaying and neutering now to reduce next season's homelessness.

-Sheltering homeless animals until they no longer need us.

-Adopting our shelter animals to loving, committed guardians.

-Educating for responsible pet guardianship so that animals who currently
have homes never become homeless.

Adoption Policy

Animal shelters are overflowing with good dogs and cats.
Many of them have been waiting at the shelter for a very long time.

As the Pedigree commercial says, “Shelter dogs aren’t broken. They’ve simply experienced more life. If they were human, we’d call them wise. They would be the ones with tales to tell and stories to write, the ones dealt a bad hand, and who responded with courage. Do not pity a shelter dog. Adopt one.”

Adoption fees rarely cover the cost of vaccinating, testing, deworming, spaying, neutering, and microchipping an animal, but they do help us pay for the veterinary care of the next animal in need.

Our adoption fee is $100.00 for cats and $200.00 for dogs. Exceptions are made for senior cats and dogs, as well as those placed through our Mending Hearts, Saving Lives program.

If you would like to adopt a cat or dog from Red Fern, you will need to:

1. Submit an adoption application.

2. Have an excellent veterinary reference.

3. Host a home visit.

4. Complete an adoption contract.

5. Reimburse a portion of your animal's expenses while at Red Fern.

6. Provide a good life for your new family member for the rest of his life.

You may reach us through our email address:, or you may call (731) 332-9116 or (731) 332-0318.  We work full-time jobs, so please be prepared to leave a message.  We will return your call as soon as possible.  If you have not heard from us within 24 hours, please call us again.  We never want one of our cats or dogs to lose an opportunity because of our failure to reply to you in a timely manner.
