Our Mission
JC Catwatch is a community-based animal welfare organization serving Jersey City through humane Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), rescue, adoption, and education. We work to reduce suffering and stabilize the community cat population by spaying/neutering outdoor cats, providing vaccinations and medical care, and returning them safely to their environments when appropriate.
We also rescue cats in need—including friendly strays, cats from hoarding situations, shelter cats at risk of euthanasia, and animals displaced by eviction or housing instability. Every cat receives the care and rehabilitation they need before being placed in a foster or adoptive home.

Adoption Policy
JC Catwatch requires all adopters to complete an application to ensure a safe and suitable match for each cat. We review the applicant’s home environment, experience with pets, and ability to provide long-term care, including food, shelter, and veterinary needs. Additional references or follow-up questions may be requested if needed. All cats are placed in indoor-only homes unless specifically approved for barn or working-cat placements. Adopters must be at least 21 years old and agree to provide lifelong, responsible care. Cats are matched based on temperament and compatibility, not a first-come, first-served basis. If a cat is adopted before sterilization, the adopter must complete spay/neuter by the required age and provide proof. All cats are vaccinated, tested, and medically cleared when possible. We also require that any adopted cat be returned to JC Catwatch if the adopter can no longer keep it, ensuring the animal remains safe and properly rehomed.
