At Castaways, our goal is to rescue dogs from abusive and neglectful circumstances. In addition, we rescue dogs from area shelters who are at risk of being euthanized. On a case-by-case basis, we re-train certain dogs who have endured extraordinary circumstances with the help of a professional trainer..
We are NOT a shelter, we do not take in owner surrenders. We are an incorporated, 501c3 nonprofit organization and rely on public donations to keep saving as many dogs as possible.
-All dogs at Castaways Rescue receive distemper/parvo/lepto vaccinations through the rescue, rabies through the county, are microchipped, dewormed, and kept on flea/heartworm prevention until adopted. All dogs over 6 months will receive a heartworm/lyme test.
-All dogs are spayed and neutered at 6 months unless a medical reason precludes their ability to have surgery. If the dog is less than six months of age, the adopter may assume the responsibility for getting the dog spayed or neutered and must provide documentation back to the rescue.
-Must consent to a home inspection.
-Must be 21 years of age to sign an adoption contract.
-Must provide proof of pet agreement if leasing or renting.
-Must provide a veterinarian point of contact, no exceptions.
-We do not have the resources to facilitate out-of-state adoptions at this time.
Adoption Process: Once we receive a suitable adoption application, we will schedule a meet and greet. Then, references are checked and a home inspection will be completed. If you are deemed a suitable adopter, the dog will enter a mandatory adoption trial. Once the trial has ended favorably, Castaways will finalize the adoption contract with the adopter. This process can take up to TWO WEEKS.
Adoption Fees: puppies (6 months and younger) $350: young adult/adult dogs $275; senior dogs (+7 years) $175. These are non-negotiable.
Training Fee: A re-training fee may be applied on a case-by-case.
