Allies For Greyhounds, Inc.
Our Mission
Allies for Greyhounds of West Michigan, Inc. was founded on October 27, 2006. Since then we have placed over 1500 retired racing greyhounds into loving forever homes.
As our group grew and we began placing greyhounds not only in multiple states, we discovered that we were much larger than just West Michigan. In the Spring of 2013, we received approval to formally change our name to Allies for Greyhounds, Inc.!  We are the same, all volunteer family oriented and Racing PROud group, but our change in name reflects how large our family has become. Â
We place retired racers in homes across the Southwest Region in Michigan and into Northern Indiana. Please consider us for your next family companion.
Adoption Policy
We are so happy to see that you are interested in adopting a retired racing greyhound!
If this is a breed that you might consider as a pet, then please check out our website (www.alliesforgreyhounds.org) for more retired racing greyhound facts.
After reading through the FAQ you determine that this is a breed for you or your family, please submit an adoption application that you fill out online via our website.
When we receive your adoption application a local volunteer will process your information. Â Upon approval, an adoption co-coordinator will contact your regarding your application and set up a time to conduct your in home adoption. The coordinator will bring three hounds to your home for adoption and help you pick out a dog that is suitable for you and your family. Â We will not "force" a dog on you, but we help you pick a dog that is going to fit your needs.Â
The adoption fee of $300.00 or $400.00Â for TGIE (The Greyhound Inmate Experience) hounds covers: spay/neuter, full dental cleaning, updated shots, 3 months supply of heart worm preventative, martingale style collar (specially designed for Greyhounds), leash, muzzle and of course a retired racing Greyhound. Â Upon adoption you will also have access to a large Greyhound community where Greyhound owners pride themselves with their knowledge and love of this
AFG has a large volunteer base that is located in the Southwest Michigan area and Northern Indiana. If you live in a 2 hour radius of the Grand Rapids, MI. area, please consider adopting a retired racing greyhound from us. We will consider placing hounds in other states, but certain restrictions apply and it is on a case by case decision. If you have any questions about this, please give us a shout via our website.
