Our Mission

Tasca’s Love Cooperative is a non-profit, all volunteer, foster based dog rescue organization serving the Washington, DC, metro area. We are dedicated to rescuing dogs left homeless in high volume low resource public shelters where they are at high risk of euthanasia due to pet overpopulation, dogs given up by their owners because of difficult circumstances, those in danger of abuse or neglect, or special medical needs.

We strive to work with shelters and other rescues, transport and humane organizations to develop a network of supporters and volunteers in order to create a better world for homeless dogs. Proactively sharing information and coordination of transportation to assist as many dogs as possible.

We place dogs in loving, responsible, committed permanent homes, following a comprehensive adoption process which includes taking considerable care in finding good matches and educating prospective adopters about the responsibilities and costs of bringing a dog into their homes. Our group remains interested in and committed to the welfare of the dog beyond the adoption process.

Dogs in our care are spayed or neutered, receive all age appropriate veterinary care and treatment and placed in nurturing foster homes while they await placement in their permanent homes. We assist dogs in distress without regard to age or breed to the extent our resources allow.

Adoption Policy

READ CAREFULLY:

*An application is required.

*Unless there's a required breed experience in the listing, if you reside in an area that is over one hour (60 miles maximum in distance) from Zip Code 20906 or 20036, your application will not be considered.

Our Application Process Includes:
*Background check
*Vet reference check
*Landlord check
*In person home visit

Adoption Donation Scale (Tax Deductible):
9 Weeks Old - 1 Year Old $450
Over 1 Year Old - up to 10 Years Old $400
Over 10 Years Old $350

*Filling out an application and any subsequent communication, including the home visit, is NOT a guarantee of approval. There are usually 3 families in the final pool of great potential homes for our dogs.

*If we do not contact you through email or phone within 7 business days of receiving your application, it means your application was not chosen as a potential fit for the dog. Following up repeatedly through email will not speed up our process either.

*If you do not authorize release of all information from your vet, and/or you fail to inform your landlord (if renting) that you intend to adopt a pet, we will disqualify your application.

*The breed we list in the dog’s bio is strictly a guess.

*Any and all behavioral issues known are disclosed and we make no representation on the pet's fitness to your household beyond what we know at the time the pet was in its foster home.

*Our contracts have a training requirement for adopted dogs.

*Our dogs are never promoted as house broken even if a foster home states they are.

*The possibility of a foster home adopting the animal in their care will be conveyed to all potential applicants.

*All adoptable dogs will have age appropriate core vaccines (Rabies, Canine distemper/adenovirus (hepatitis)/parvovirus vaccine) and a microchip.

*All adoptable dogs over the age of 6 months will be neutered/spayed before adoption is finalized unless medically prohibited. If our Spay/Neuter partner facilities have a surgery backlog, the surgery will be scheduled as soon as an appointment becomes available.

*If for any reason a dog is adopted without a microchip being detected, a rescue representative will follow up with the adoptive family to ensure a microchip is implanted.

*Electronic copies of medical records of adopted dog will be emailed to the adopter. Depending on volunteer availability, original medical records will be mailed to adopters two weeks after full execution of the adoption contract.
