Our Mission

The South Suburban Humane Society is dedicated to promoting the well-being of pets and the people who love them in the Metro Chicago region. Through the care and sheltering of animals needing protection, providing pet care resources to our communities, promoting the human-pet bond through adoption services, and targeted, high-impact spay/neuter policies, the South Suburban Humane Society will make every effort towards ending pet homelessness, reducing pet overpopulation, and creating a better world for pets and their people.

Adoption Policy

Adoption Requirements at the South Suburban Humane Society



1. All adopters must be 18 years of age.

2. All members of the household are encouraged to meet.

3. Be certain pets are allowed in your home or apartment.



An adoption interview is required prior to adoption. Please bring a photo ID.



Upon approval, you can go home with your pet* after their spay/neuter procedure (often same day). Your pet will leave up-to-date with their vaccines, microchip and registration, and spay/neuter. 



Kittens under 6 months (April 1 - Oct 1) : $75

Kittens under 6 months (Oct 2 - March 31) : $150

Cats between 6 months and 6 years (April 1 - Oct 1) : $50

Cats between 6 months and 6 years (Oct 2 -March 31) : $75

Cats 6-10 years: $50

Cats 10+ years: $25


Mixed breed/large breed puppies under 6 months: $200

Pure bred/Small breed puppies under 6 months: $250

Pit bull/pit bull mixes over 6 months: $55

Dogs under 30 lbs 6 months - 6 years : $175

Dogs under 30 lbs 6 years - 10 years : $50

Dogs under 30 lbs 10+ years : $25

Dogs over 30 lbs 6 months - 6 years : $125

Dogs over 30 lbs 6+ years : $25

High profile pets under 6 years : $250




*All dogs must leave with leash, collar and tag. If you do not have one, you may purchase at time of adoption.
* All cats must leave in a carrier or cardboard carrier. If you do not have one, you may purchase at time of adoption.
