Our Mission
The mission of The Dog and Cat Project is to promote the welfare of stray, abandoned, and at-risk animals by providing rescue, rehabilitation, medical care, and adoption services.
We are dedicated to reducing animal suffering through compassionate intervention, public education, community outreach, and accessible resources that support responsible pet ownership.
Our goal is to create a humane and sustainable future where every dog and cat has a safe home and a second chance.
Adoption Policy
1. Apply (5-10 minutes).
Submit the online application with basic household info, pet history, and your vet/landlord contacts.
2. Conversation & Matchmaking (24-72 hrs).
An adoption counselor reviews your application and schedules a quick call. We discuss lifestyle, routines, and what you’re hoping for so we can recommend the best fit (energy, training needs, medical considerations).
3. erification.
4. Vet check: current pets are up to date on vaccines/preventives and spayed/neutered (case-by-case medical exceptions).
5. Housing check: confirmation of pet/breed/weight policies and deposits if renting or HOA-regulated.
6. Meet & Greet.
7. Dogs: neutral-site or foster-home intro; bring resident dogs if applicable.
8. Cats: meet in the foster room; we’ll talk through multi-cat introductions and decompression.
If everyone’s comfortable, we can move to a same-day or scheduled placement.
9. Home Review (virtual or in-person).
A quick walkthrough (video is fine) to confirm basics: safe exits, litter/feeding areas, yard or leash plan, and where the pet will sleep/decompress.
10. Foster-to-Adopt (optional for puppies/kittens/medical).
Short trial (typically 3–7 days; longer for medical cases) so the pet and household can settle. We provide supplies/meds as needed; your counselor stays in touch.
11. Finalize.
Adoption contract, medical disclosure (all known history, vaccines/tests, meds, behavior notes), and the adoption fee (helps cover vetting). We register the microchip to you and email the full medical record and next-due dates.
12. Aftercare.
We check in at 48 hours, 2 weeks, and 30 days. Behavior and medical support are available; if a mismatch occurs, we honor a return-to-rescue policy, no judgment, we’ll regroup and rematch.
What we look for: safe, stable housing; a realistic plan for time, training, and vet care; and a good fit between the pet’s needs and your lifestyle. There’s no “perfect home”, just a committed one with the right support.
