Crescent City, FL

Our Mission

Since 1996, the American Foundation for Animal Rescue Inc, a nonprofit IRS 501c(3) organization, through its direct efforts and its support of animal rescue and welfare groups, has provided care to more than 10,000 animals with its animal sanctuary, veterinary programs, and emergency shelters, foster homes, and grassroots rescues. From 1996 – 2004 AFAR operated the Queens Community Animal Shelter and the Animal Behavior Center of New York (ABCNY). In 2004, AFAR moved its headquarters from New York City to Putnam County Florida after purchasing 15 acres to establish its Dream Pond Animal Sanctuary and Reserve that is now the home of once homeless rabbits, cats, dogs, pygmy goats, horses, donkeys, and llamas. AFAR has an officer that sits on the Putnam County Animal Services Advisory Committee and has a partnership with the American College of Applied Science that provides degree and non-degree programs in animal science, animal behavior and animal welfare.
