West Haven Animal Shelter
Our Mission
The West Haven Animal Shelter is a municipal shelter dedicated to servicing the public as it relates to animal issues.  Animal Control Officers respond to calls when public safety is an issue.
We provide for and protect abandoned, abused, neglected, and unwanted animals, as well as finding qualified homes for adoptable homeless companion animals that are temporary residents of our shelter. We promote animal welfare through programs and services that mutually benefit animals and people.
When a dog is taken into custody by an Animal Control Officer, as per state law, an ad is placed in our local paper with the animals description, to help an owner locate their dog. Seven (7) days from the placement of the ad if the dog has not been claimed by it's owner it would be available for adoption at that time.
We are committed to helping all animals that come into our care.
All animals are given medical care if needed and lots of TLC
Adoption Policy
We welcome adoption inquiries from far and wide!Â
To adopt from us, you will need to fill out an application, which will then have to be approved by our Animal Control Officers. If you already have another dog, we encourage you to bring it with you to meet the animal you are interested in. We have areas set up at the shelter to introduce dogs and see how they get along together.
Please note, animals are not adopted on a first come, first serve basis. We need to make sure it will be the best match for both you and the animal.
Adoption hours are 11am to 3pm EVERY DAY. We take in and adopt out an enormous number of animals. Some animals come and go very quickly. If you see an animal you like on this site, come visit us immediately and often! Even if the animal you were interested in has been adopted, we may have others that haven't even been posted yet. And don't forget to spay or neuter your pet!!! Thank You!
