Routt County Humane Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1985 that is dedicated to animal welfare, the prevention of cruelty to animals, providing humane education, promoting spaying and neutering, and encouraging respect for the dignity and worth of all animals.
If you’re interested in adopting an animal, the first step is to submit an inquiry for an adoption application, which can be accessed on our website or collected and submitted in-person.
Once the application is received, the approval process can take up to a week, depending on how many applicants are interested in the same animal, although the process is typically closer to 1-4 days. A representative from RCHS will contact you as soon as the review process is completed.
As part of the approval process, we frequently verify home ownership or get approval from your landlord that pets are allowed. We do this because one of the top reasons animals are surrendered to RCHS is that many rental properties in our area do not allow pets. We also check on personal references and cannot adopt to anyone under 18 years of age.
