Wonder's Story

CURRENT RIDER LEVEL: Advanced

Awesome Wonder "Wonder" is a 2018 off the track Thoroughbred who stands at 16 hands tall and weighs 1,054 lbs. Wonder had no training prior to arrival, other than what she experienced on the track. Wonder is a gentle and affectionate girl but she has spirit and energy too! She gets along well with both mares and geldings and holds her own in a herd setting. Wonder has been lightly re-started from the ground to build a solid foundation for riding. She shows great potential to succeed as a hunter jumper or maybe some light eventing. Wonder is still very green under saddle and lacks many life experiences. She will move and fidget when standing to be groomed and saddled and she still needs work to stand for mounting as she likes to walk off as soon as your seated. Wonder thrives with consistency and she likes coming out to work. She does get anxious when working in the arena alone with out another horse with her, even if the other horse isn't one of her buddies. Wonder needs to continue working on giving to bit pressure and moving from leg pressure. Her transitions and rhythm at the trot and canter will also need refining, but she is improving with each ride. She will pick up a nice working trot and a canter on both leads. Wonder can get fresh and excitable and offers a hop now and then, but she has never reared or bucked. Wonder will be best matched with an experienced / advanced rider who is comfortable with green OTTB's and wants an english horse to make their own. While Wonder is waiting for the perfect home to come along, we will continue working with her to become a more consistent and well rounded partner both on the ground and under saddle.

To get approved, please complete a lifetime lease application and email it to info@wyhumane.org
Include with your completed application, pictures of your property including your barn, stall, or run-in shed, pasture, water source, and fencing both close up and a corner picture.

Links to the application and our policies.
