Violet's Story

CURRENT RIDER LEVEL: Intermediate

Violet is a 2010 grade mare who stands at 15.1 hands tall and weighs 1,098 lbs. Violet is an opinionated mare. In the field, Violet can be very dominant with the other horses, especially around food. She is very food motivated and her love is easily bought with treats. Violet stands quietly for the farrier and she stands tied for grooming and tacking.

Violet is very sensitive to saddle fit, If shes uncomfortable with the saddle, she tries to communicate with her rider before overreacting. At first Violet will be reluctant to move forward. If you continue pushing her, she will arch her back and then crow hop. Violet's ideal saddle fit does have a tendency to change with fluctuations in her weight and must be kept up with to make sure she stays comfortable.

With a proper fitting saddle, Violet is willing partner! She is a sensitive and forward ride with a lively trot and a nice canter. Violet gives to pressure very willingly and moves off of seat and leg pressure. She direct reins best, but is very close to fully neck reining. Violet rides very well in the arena, but is happiest on the trail. On the trail, she will follow the lead horse nicely. With more time and experience Violet could be a confident lead horse. New obstacles are scary for Violet but with time and patience, she works through her nerves with minimal issues. Violet loads and unloads very well and did amazing on the off property trail ride we took her on. Violet is truly a wonderful mare, with a lot of potential. She would be best matched with an intermediate rider looking for a trail horse to grow a relationship with.

To get approved, please complete a lifetime lease application and email it to info@wyhumane.org
Include with your completed application, pictures of your property including your barn, stall, or run-in shed, pasture, water source, and fencing both close up and a corner picture.

Links to the application and our policies.
