Twix's Story

Meet Twix!

This 28-year-old, true '90s baby has a whole lot of personality, a signature stink face, and a soft spot for the simple things in life!

Twix came to us all the way from Tennessee, where a rescue partner took him in after his previous owners could no longer care for him. He was diagnosed with Cushing's disease and anhidrosis (the inability to sweat), making the Tennessee heat especially difficult for him. His move to New York was coordinated in hopes that a cooler climate would improve his quality of life and help him find a loving retirement home.

Understandably, such a big move was a lot for this older gentleman! Twix was initially standoffish and preferred to be left alone, but he's come a long way since settling in. He's great for basic handling, although he isn't afraid to flash his famous grumpy face if you're bothering him at an inconvenient time!

Twix is looking for a peaceful retirement home where he can enjoy his senior meals, continue gaining weight, and be spoiled by someone who appreciates a slightly opinionated old man. He would love a calm, gentle equine companion, but he's easily bullied and would prefer a buddy who won't chase or push him around.

Twix is up to date on veterinary care and requires daily medication for his Cushing's disease. He is also currently receiving medication to support his breathing, with the hope of eventually discontinuing it under veterinary guidance. His anhidrosis will likely require extra consideration during warmer weather, but with the cooler temperatures, it isn't currently affecting his day-to-day comfort.

He currently enjoys daytime turnout, grazing, and spending his nights in a stall. His diet is rich in senior feed to help him continue gaining weight and maintain his condition.

Though his days of big adventures may be behind him, Twix would love nothing more than a peaceful home with a gentle friend, plenty of good food, and someone to love him just as he is.

If you have a soft spot for grumpy old ponies, Twix might just be your guy!
