TULIP

Tulip came to Longmeadow several hundred pounds underweight and extremely anxious. Over time, she steadily gained the weight she desperately needed and began to trust her handlers more and more. She’s now a different horse than when she arrived! She greets you in the pasture, is very sweet (though still a little shy), and respectful of space. Tulip has been evaluated by our trainer and is now ready for adoption! <br/><br/>When our trainers initially evaluated Tulip under saddle, she was nervous and unsure about being ridden. After giving her ample time to settle in, she allowed our assistant trainer to get on with just a bareback pad and halter and ride her calmly around the arena. While she still had “questions” and some delayed responses, she remained calm and relaxed throughout the experience. Our trainers never felt unsafe or untrusting of Tulip. They believe she simply needed time to process what was being asked. By keeping things slow and using clear, deliberate cues, they could see her working to put the pieces together. <br/>On the ground, Tulip is attentive and a quick learner.<br/><br/> Once you build trust with this mare, she will do what you ask with ease. She enjoys attention, just not in a group setting. She does better around a smaller amount of people. At this time, we are requiring an advanced rider working with a professional trainer to continue building Tulip’s confidence and skills under saddle. Tulip stands nicely for the farrier and our vets. She gets along well with her pasture mates and tends to be in the middle of the pecking order. Tulip is a gem and loved dearly here at the Ranch. She has been diagnosed with Cushings since being in our care and will require a daily dose of Prascend in her future home. She has no problem eating her pill with her morning grain.
