SUNNY's Story
Meet Sunny, a Missouri Fox Trotter gelding with a face so handsome he should probably come with a warning label! Sunny was surrendered to Longmeadow when his previous owners moved and unfortunately could not bring Sunny along. Since arriving at the Ranch, he has settled in and is now ready to find his forever home! During his evaluation period, our trainers noticed that Sunny showed signs of discomfort when they’d introduce a girth. We had him scoped by a veterinarian and the results were exactly what we suspected: ulcers. We gave Sunny some time off and began his ulcer treatment. After his ulcer treatment concluded, we sent Sunny out to pasture and he became a much happier boy. When our trainers put him back in the training program, Sunny’s signs of discomfort were gone. Although he still checks in when his riders start putting his tack on, he has not pinned his ears or given our trainers any reason to believe his actions are anything more than an anticipatory reaction to past pain. Under saddle, Sunny is fun, forward and has a smooth gait. He rides safely in our indoor arena and out on our trail. He does best when riding (and working on the ground) with a buddy to keep him company. Sunny is not looking for a timid or nervous rider or handler. We fear he would walk all over them (literally and metaphorically). What he wants (and needs) is a confident intermediate partner who can say, “Sir, put your feet back over there, please and thank you” and he’ll happily oblige. Someone who can give him clear boundaries and guidance but be patient and understanding. This boy needs gentle assertiveness from his adopter. When it comes to his looks, this gelding is truly striking! He has a handsome, expressive face and a presence that draws attention. He stands well for our farrier and our vets and has been easy to catch from the paddock when it’s time to come in. He gets along with both mares and geldings. With consistency and a confident handler/rider, Sunny has all the potential to become a wonderful partner. Adoption Fee: $900 Height: 15.1HH Maximum Carrying Weight (includes tack and rider): 225lbs
