SANTIAGO's Story
Meet Santiago! This handsome guy was surrendered to Longmeadow in January 2021. When he arrived, Santiago was an intact stud that required a separate turn out from all other horses. He has since been castrated and is ready for his forever home. We have found that despite the castration, Santiago still believes he is a smooth talker with the ladies. At this time, we believe Santiago would do best with a home with private turnout, strictly mares, or submissive geldings. We have evaluated Santiago under saddle and are very impressed with this handsome gelding. He stands tied, like a true gentleman, and accepts both the saddle and rider. It appears he has had some training. He is a level-headed horse and does not spook easily. His age-appropriate stiffness can make him less supple when steering. While in work, Santiago is most comfortable in front shoes. He would be fine without shoes if he is being ridden on a lead line or as a pasture pet. We recommend Santiago as a light riding horse where he could enjoy slow strolls around your property at the walk and trot. This restriction is due to his age, conformation and arthritis. Santiago would do best with a solid, intermediate rider. Santiago is not being ridden currently. He is used in handling demonstrations or used for working students to practice their groundwork skills. He is a patient gentleman and has shown time and time again that he is a quiet, reliable gelding. Adoption Fee: $300.00 Height: 14.2hh Carrying Weight: 185lbs (including tack and rider) Meet Santiago from Humane Society of Missouri on Vimeo .
