Rocky's Story

CURRENT RIDER LEVEL: Confident Beginner

Allen's Sunshine Boy (Rocky) is a 2001 Spotted Saddle Horse gelding who stands at 14.1 hands tall and weighs 748lbs.

Rocky is an outgoing, personable gelding who has settled in easily with both mares and geldings in his turnout group. He’ll happily greet you in the pasture—especially if you have a treat in hand. While he can be a bit pushy when leading, he does respond well to corrections and improves with consistent handling.
On the ground, Rocky can be fidgety during grooming and tacking and will move around if not reminded. He does best with clear, steady expectations and benefits from gentle but consistent reminders to stand politely.

Rocky can be mildly buddy-sour and may call out when separated from other horses. Under saddle, he is noticeably more relaxed and confident when other horses are nearby and prefers not to be alone in the arena.

Under saddle, Rocky offers a quick walk and a forward, willing trot. He currently lacks the muscle and conditioning to canter and will need time to build strength. Based on his comfort level, he appears to have been a trail horse in the past, as he is still getting comfortable with arena riding. Due to weather, he has not yet been taken out on the trails with us. Rocky would be best matched with someone looking to putter around their property or enjoy easy, relaxed trail rides. He will thrive with a patient rider who understands he is still building confidence and fitness and is willing to let him progress at his own pace.

To get approved, please complete a lifetime lease application and email it to info@wyhumane.org
Include with your completed application, pictures of your property including your barn, stall, or run-in shed, pasture, water source, and fencing both close up and a corner picture.

Links to the application and our policies.
