Red-'s Story

PLEASE NOTE: THE INQUIRY FORM ON THIS PAGE IS NOT THE HEART OF PHOENIX ADOPTION APPLICATION

Paso fino
Foal date: 4/24
13 and growing

Red had 110+ days of training with Stephanie Burk.

Red is a yearling Paso Fino who currently stands at 13 hh. Her bloodlines trace to Fino show horses; her sire is El Romance de Besilu and her dam is Independencia de Sociagro. Her sire is rather well known in Paso Fino show circles and is still competing in Puerto Rico.

From trainer 8/8/25:

She's very brave for a baby! I'm always impressed how fearless she is around obstacles and how quickly she adjusts to new situations. She's sweet too. I think she's going to make a great little trail horse or maybe be a fun kids horse for arena work. Red is incredibly kind, intelligent, and honest. She is willing and trusting with little drama. - she is very curious while keeping herself and her people safe. A gentle soul with lots of love and companionship to give!

From trainer july 2025:

Although Red will not be rideable for several years, she is a true pleasure to have in your stable and work with on the ground. You won’t be missing out! Red will happily follow you around on or off lead. She loves to be groomed and spend time around people. She is in a mixed herd and does fine with everyone. She may squeal at certain horses initially but will acclimate with time.

Red has an inquisitive and curious personality and seems to enjoy obstacle work. She also does well being ponied on the trail. She would be a smooth and relatively brave ride for someone looking for a gaited trail horse. Red ties, cross ties, loads, bathes, lunges, wears a saddle or surcingle, and stands for the farrier. Red has started on a few tricks for a positive reinforcement trick title. She is very easy to catch in the pasture (just stand there and she will come to you). With time, Red could likely become a beginner-safe horse. However, as Red is a yearling and not yet under saddle, an intermediate rider working with a trainer (or someone with prior success in starting young horses) would probably be ideal. Red is not currently registered and is awaiting confirmation from the Paso Fino Horse Association for her registration paperwork. She is expected to mature at a typical Paso Fino height (according to the PFHA, most Pasos are between 13.3-14.2 hh). Red is in search of her new best friend! Let us know if that might be you. Red is adoptable to approved applicants prior to the ATFO and can move to her new home after the competition.
Follow her progress at #hopteamred

Adoption Info:

Horses adopted are typically up to date on vaccines, dental floats, farrier care and all vet needs.

Horses are typically located in the Appalachian area, but please inquire about a horse's specific location when you apply!

We are looking to adopt to safe homes.

A history of good horsemanship, the ability to provide sufficient care with good vet, farrier and peer references are important. If you are a first-time horse owner, we will require you to board at a facility for the first year while you learn more about care. We encourage everyone to take advantage of riding lessons.

Foal adoptions require previous, established experience with youngsters.

Our adoption process makes sure you get the right horse for you – it is a no-fail process for finding the right match.

Apply at https://www.wvhorserescue.org/adopt

PLEASE NOTE: THE INQUIRY FORM ON THIS PAGE IS NOT THE HEART OF PHOENIX ADOPTION APPLICATION
