Reba's Story

Reba is a survivor with a big heart. She's participated in the Dakota Showdown twice and unfortunately had difficult experiences both times. The first trainer was a bad match and she went backwards rather than improving, though she was transferred to another trainer who made amazing progress with her! She entered the Showdown a second time and unfortunately suffered a training accident that has left her blind, and she returned to us in poor weight.

She seems to have had some vision returned, but is impaired. She is also still anxious about her feet but with patience and quiet is able to be trimmed. Her training accident was while being tied, as it was a problem area, so at this point we do not recommend that she be hard tied. However, she is well adjusted, smart, and willing to trust - all good things that will do well for her in the future.

We are willing to place her in an understanding and experienced home, however will be very picky as her challenges are great and she's been through more than she should have to deal with. We are absolutely prepared for her to live out the rest of her life at the shelter, however if you are interested in giving her an amazing home, we will gladly talk to you and introduce you. We will need you to visit several times and work with her before we will be comfortable sending her to a home.

Reba came to GSH as part of a large seizure of horses from Kingsbury County, South Dakota. Registered name Conclusive Poco Girl.
