Odie's Story
Odie is a 10-year-old black, non-BLM Mustang with endless potential for the right adopter. While he was gentled earlier in life, he had very little handling in the three years prior to arriving at the NHSPCA about a month ago. Since coming into care, he has been relearning the basics and showing just how smart, willing, and engaging he can be when given consistent guidance.

Odie is a bold, playful, and sassy guy who enjoys interacting with his environment and especially loves toys and enrichment. He plays hard with his paddock mates-most recently a mini hinny-and brings a lot of personality to everything he does. He can be pushy around food, so he will thrive with a confident handler who provides clear expectations and structure.

Due to being a bit overweight and having a history of laminitis, Odie will require a dry lot and thoughtful weight management. With proper care, he is comfortable and doing well. He is up to date on dental care and vaccinations, is microchipped, and is progressing nicely with handling. He stands well for front hoof trims and will need continued, patient training for his hind feet.

With the right program, Odie could excel as a project horse for an experienced adopter looking to develop a Mustang partner from the ground up. He is intelligent, athletic, and fun, and with time, consistency, and proper management, he has the potential to become much more than just a companion. Email farmanimals@nhspca.org for more info!
