May's Story
Meet May, May came to us with her sidekick Hudson (a gelded senior Thoroughbred ) when her previous owner had to surrender them due to health issues as well as transferring out of state for another family member’s job. May’s previous owner was truly a dedicated owner through and through and this was a very difficult decision for her, but she was completely selfless and only thought of May and what was best for her. May is a retired Draft-horse mix who is as sweet as she can be. She is approximately 15 years old but don’t let her age detour you, as horses can live for 30 years if they are well cared for. A senior horse is the perfect choice for first time horse owners because of their laid back dispositions and calm demeanor. Typically, they are already trained, so the hard work has already been done for you. May is halter broke, easy to catch and has many years of experience under a saddle. May has been ridden both western and english with individuals who have very little experience, as well as with the experienced rider. Going forward, the rider will need to take it slow with May and always keep her in a steady walk because of her age, and they must be sure to not run with her. Also, the person riding should be mindful of weight restrictions in order to not cause May any undo stress. So I would say she should not be ridden with weights of 135 pounds or more. May trailers really well and stands great for the farrier. She is also completely current on all necessary vaccinations including Coggins and she was seen by a Veterinarian recently and was given a clean bill of health. She has also recently had her teeth routinely floated and was seen by the farrier. May has not been ridden in a few years so the information provided above is from her former owner’s regarding the last time she was ridden.

May currently lives in our sanctuary along with donkeys, goats, pigs, poultry and various breeds of small and larger dogs and she gets along famously with every animal she has encountered.

Please reach out to us if you’d like more information about May, or if you’d like to schedule a meet and greet. There is a rehoming fee.
