Lacy -Liberty Partner or COMPANION ONLY's Story
Lacy
2017
Appalachian Brumby Pony
Buttermilk Buckskin
Mare
13.1 hh

FEE: $tbd by trainer

Lacy is a beautiful mare but she is sensitive and riding isn't something she will EVER be comfortable with, so SHE IS A lovely, COMPANION ADOPTION ONLY - NO RIDING #HOPTEAMLACY

This beautiful 9-year-old 13.1 hand Appalachian Brumby mare continues to make progress daily, though it may not be the type of progress that people are accustomed to seeing.
Lacys progression is the type of progression that is slow, but warms your heart. Its a gentle nicker (when theres no food involved - shes just happy to see you coming). Its allowing you to walk up to her while shes laying down in a sunny paddock. Its being able to stand in cross-ties with tractors and a bunch of farmers running around just feet behind her. Her progress is measured in trust.
Though Lacy makes you work to earn her trust (and really, she has to work to earn our trust as well - so the playing fields are pretty even), I promise you - its worth it. This mare is one that would walk into battle for her person, and I strongly believe that.
Lacy has walked into her own mental battles for me.
Lacy has gone from being the mare that would tremble if you walked too close to her behind to the mare that stands confidently and allows you to play with her tail. Lacy has gone from the mare that barely tolerated being brushed to the mare that cocks a leg and falls asleep when you run a body brush over her. Lacy has transformed from a horse that only needed people to deliver her meals into a horse that enjoys being brought out of the paddock and enjoys seeing what challenge youre giving her that day.
Now - all that to say, she IS still a horse with a feral background. She does still have her days where shes a little off, her sessions where shes not interested, and her moments where shes flighty.
Shes got quirks.
But if you are searching for a true partner in a horse, this is your girl. Lacy thrives on connection and leadership. She is certainly not for a beginner handler, but if you are confident and experienced, you and Lacy could go far.
I could absolutely see this mare competing in hand (and kicking butt) or in liberty competitions, or I could also see her thriving with her own person who wants to have a horse to love on. In hand trail competitions? She would love the challenge. Trail walks side-by-side with her human? Shes definitely game. While shes not overly affectionate, she does offer moments of I love you, too that are sure to melt your heart... like shes melted mine.
Im excited for this home stretch with Lacy - our final 100ish days of training before the ATFO in August. Stay tuned for continued updates, future adventures and of course ... more photos and videos of this beauty.
Many many many heartfelt thank-yous to the one and only Shelbey Christ Photography for getting these incredible photos of Lacy Girl this week. She captured her beauty (and her soft eye!).
Adoption fees may be outdated, as a horse may have moved into training, so check us on most current fee.
