Harper's Story

Harper will be participating in the 2023 Dakota Showdown Horse Trainer Challenge and available for adoption via auction to approved adopters on August 13, 2023. Learn more and apply to adopt at http://dakotashowdown.com

Harper is a quiet, smart Quarter Horse mare who is about 15 hands tall. She can be slow to trust which makes her difficult to catch but during the Dakota Showdown showed that when worked with regularly and allowed to bond to someone she is an in your pocket horse who LOVES head hugs. She is smart and willing and learns fast, and has a very solid ground foundation. Give her a little time and refresher on ground work and she should progress to riding nicely.

Harper is a quiet mare in pasture, gets along with everyone, and isn't one that causes trouble. The key to Harper is to let her learn she can trust you and when she does, she will be the most willing and loyal partner you will ever have. She LOVES children and is very careful around them.

Harper will require an experienced adopter OR someone willing to invest in continued training (probably at least 90 days) to be a riding horse. With the significant amount of improvement she's shown she should continue to learn quickly as training continues.

Harper came to GSH as part of a large seizure of horses from Kingsbury County, South Dakota.

Harper is HYPP N/N.
