Frannie's Story

Frannie is a 3-year-old BLM mustang mare who has spent her summer in the Foundation Division. She is a young, compact horse with a friendly personality and a great brain. Frannie responds excellently to reward-based (R+) training; she is highly food-motivated, loves to learn, and has reached that turning point where she is completely relaxed around people and accepting of standard handling.

Frannie has developed a thorough foundation on the ground. She is easy to catch and halter, leads well, ponies, and yields both her shoulders and hindquarters. She stands to be brushed all over, handles a sponge bath, and is respectful with her feet, allowing her backs to be picked up and her fronts to be held out. She also stands patiently at the mounting block, touches a target at liberty, and handles a cinch and saddle with a bareback pad. Frannie has already accepted a rider for light walking, though because of her young age and smaller size, her training has focused heavily on ground manners rather than intense riding.

She handles new environments with a level head and does not spook easily. She is currently working on fine-tuning her lunging, and she is still gaining confidence with a hose, fly spray, and trailering. She prefers not to be driven from behind, but she is incredibly solid on everything she learns. Frannie is a smart, teachable young mare who is ready to take her strong foundation and continue growing with a patient partner.

Capture Location: Augusta Mountains, NV
Capture Date: 1/21/2024
Freezemark: 23910545
