She's the perfect combination of laid-back and willing—happy to go on adventures, learn new things, and then relax with her favorite people.
Cosmos is incredibly sweet and definitely not your typical mare. She's the kind of horse who wants to be with you—always in your pocket without ever being pushy. She has excellent ground manners, a kind heart, and a personality that makes everyone fall in love with her.
Whether it's trail rides, dressage ,low-level eventing, or another fun career, with time Cosmos will make her adopter a great partner. She would make an amazing match for a confident advanced beginner looking a willing, and affectionate person to continue her journey.
If you're searching for a horse that's equal parts fun, kind, and easy to love, Cosmos is waiting to meet you.
Cosmos is very people oriented. She is not pushy or hateful or nervous. She is just OK all around with the presence of people and other horses. She is extremely easy going for a TB.
She has recently been acclimated to a mixed herd setting, which shes doing well in. Until now she has been stabled along Alfredo who shes become pretty close to, and sometimes is worrisome when they are apart. I do believe that this will not be an issue the longer as she is in a mixed her setting once she finds her place.
I have had three rides on Cosmos and shes pretty uncomplicated. This is an excellent step ahead for her in her progress. She has shown great eagerness and willingness to trust people and ready to tackle a new skill set that will pave the way to her new life.
Cosmo stands quiet and willing for tacking, picking up feet, fly, spraying and mounting. Although she was just learning leg cues and to give pressure, she is making quick progress in a short amount of time.
I do believe with some more work she will be an amateur friendly partner for someone.
Her ground manners are excellent, and her demeanor is unlike most typical mares.
The only negative thing( and the least negative of negatives)I can report about Cosmos is that in a stall, she has shown the tendency to want to crib while she eats. When shes turned out with hay, she does not do this. We have found that hanging a slow feed hay net helps, but I have still seen her take a bite of food and crib at the same time. This is a learned behavior that has helped a horse horse cope with past stressors and is very common in the thoroughbred and off track racehorse world. Im hoping it will improve as it has already since shes been in our barn. She has already become a barn favorite!

The Appalachian Trainer Face Off is a one-of-a-kind event that brings together horse trainers from across the country to compete while highlighting adoptable horses and showcasing each trainers skills. The 2026 event is scheduled for August 2022 in Winfield, West Virginia, and selected horses will be offered in an adoption auction on August 22, 2026.

If youre interested in bidding, apply now for the opportunity to bid on horses that fit your riding category. If you are a first time horse owner, we will require you to board at a facility for the first year while you learn more about care. We encourage everyone to take advantage of riding lessons.

Foal adoptions require previous, established experience with youngsters.

Our adoption process makes sure you get the right horse for you it is a no fail process for finding the right match.
