Cassia -'s Story
PLEASE NOTE: THE INQUIRY FORM ON THIS PAGE IS NOT THE HEART OF PHOENIX ADOPTION APPLICATION

Barn name: Cassia
2018
Grade
Chestnut
Mare
15hh estimated

Cassia was in training for 90+ days with Colby O'Connor and then moved to training with 7 Aces Performance Horses. Follow her progress at #hopteamcassia.

From trainer 8/10/2025:

Usually you have 100 or so days, but Cassia started out with a different trainer that had to drop out due to an injury. Colby O’Connor of Circle C Equine had started Cassia, and she did a phenomenal job. This mare is relaxed, soft in the face, willing, confident and trusting in people. I just hope in the next 10 ish days that I can show her to the best of her ability.

We already started on a trail ride with some arena work. Unfortunately it was towards the end of the day and my phone was dying. She’s not startled by much and has a great foundation on her. What I’m hoping to accomplish is expose her to as many things as I’m able to here, and continuing to work on the basics and tune those up where needed.

From trainer 7/9/25:

We are halfway through our training time together and Cassia just keeps continuing to make progress. I’ve taken these first few months slow and easy. Mainly just getting her gentle and exposed to everything I could from miles of trails, and obstacles. This mare is turning into a great trail horse that I love to go adventure on. She will go just about anywhere you point her willingly.
In just this short time we have walked a many miles it seems like but I haven’t pushed this mare hard into a trot or lope. I have asked her to and she does so without much hesitation but I’d like to get everything we can down path in a walk as well as we can before progressing to the next steps of asking the same things in a higher energy and speed.
Cassia has the basics down on the ground and in the saddle so for the remaining time we have left together I plan to start working on more skills and getting her prepared for the atfo atmosphere by hauling her to new locations. Cassia is a great minded horse that has lots of try and willingness about her with a sweet personality on top of that. I really enjoy this mare and think highly of her

Horses are typically located in the Appalachian area, but please inquire about a horse's specific location when you apply!

We are looking to adopt to safe homes.

A history of good horsemanship, the ability to provide sufficient care with good vet, farrier and peer references are important. If you are a first-time horse owner, we will require you to board at a facility for the first year while you learn more about care. We encourage everyone to take advantage of riding lessons.

Foal adoptions require previous, established experience with youngsters.

Our adoption process makes sure you get the right horse for you – it is a no-fail process for finding the right match.

Apply at https://www.wvhorserescue.org/adopt

PLEASE NOTE: THE INQUIRY FORM ON THIS PAGE IS NOT THE HEART OF PHOENIX ADOPTION APPLICATION
