Annie's Story

Annie is a 20-year-old mare who has been steadily gaining weight and is finally healthy enough for her riding evaluation. She came from auction, where she was called a “kid-safe horse” with a “sticky stifle.” After our vet check, we believe it to be a mild case of upward patellar fixation made worse by her lack of muscle. With some continued weight gain and simple physical therapy (think trot poles, hills, and backing up), she’ll only get stronger!

This sweet mare has clearly been loved in the past and brings a lot to the table:

* Friendly and easy to catch
* Stands quietly for grooming
* Leads and loads into a trailer
* Accepts tack and rider without fuss
* Light and responsive under saddle, with more “whoa than go”

Because of her age and mild stifle issue, Annie is best suited for a home where she can enjoy light riding, mostly at the walk/trot, with someone who will appreciate her gentle nature.

A few quirks to know: Annie can be pushy at feeding time and still needs supplemental calories/grain even though her teeth are in great shape. An adopter with a place to feed her separately will set her up for success. She also enjoys a stall and the “finer things in life”—she’ll thrive with someone who loves to spoil her a little.

If you’re looking for a calm, affectionate partner who’s ready for light adventures and lots of love, Annie may be the perfect fit.

* Stands quietly for grooming

A few quirks to know: Annie can be pushy at feeding time and still needs sup
