Alfredo - 365 Division's Story

Which has been our entire goal once we got to being able to ride with him. He still gets worried, and will throw the entire book of answers at you sometimes.

He can also down right be a little naughty sometimes still.. but I cant seem to get that on film He sometimes gets worried, but he trusts me to help him through
.
He’s come so far and can be so pleasant to ride now, compared to what we’ve previously experienced. We’ve been doing a lot of slow work, walking and stopping. He spends so much time wanting to rush so we’ve done the opposite. Yesterday was the first time I’ve asked this guy to trot/lope a circle, especially outside with no walls. He’s known to fall off a circle and drift, however, he stepped off nice and easy, and almost kept a perfect circle, plus he stayed underneath me and stayed controlled with his speed.

All in all, I’m very happy with the way this guy has progressed and how he’s changed.

From his trainer 7/2025:

2013 model Alfredo is a well built and stocky QH type gelding. He’s a petite guy, short in the back and neck. However is a beautiful mover, tracks out nicely and his trot with his short legs doesn’t beat you to death. Lopes nice like a rocking horse. This horse is not for a beginner rider. He needs an intermediate rider with a trainer or an advanced rider/trainer. Alfredo is green broke and knows all the basic things, and is in training to finish them out and make them pretty. He doesn’t trust well, so you have to earn his confidence. The more confident you are the better he is. He is habitually lazy, he would rather not work at all and will buffalo you to see if he can get it out of it. He has some buck, and will tuck tail and spin around if he is met with too much pressure.

Alfredo is 100% a quiet ride, as long as you lunge him prior to riding. A nice 10 minutes to get his brain in gear and get his Willies out and he’s golden. This guy leads, loads and ties, ponies, loves water and has no issues crossing streams, walk, trot, canter, start of neck reining, understands leg pressure, lunges beautifully, saddles and bridles perfect, does okay with feet, just requires someone willing to take their time. Has seen cattle and doesn’t mind them, safe with and around dogs. Has a small spook, but doesn’t tuck tail and run away more so just blows. No bolt or bite. This guy is nice.. just requires someone with patience and understanding. You must take your time with him. Alfredo is a puppy dog once he’s comfortable and comes when called or whistled too. He enjoys baths and anything food related, he’s not huge on you being in his personal bubble all the time but really just wants to be near you.

Horses are typically located in the Appalachian area, but please inquire about a horse's specific location when you apply!

We are looking to adopt to safe homes.

A history of good horsemanship, the ability to provide sufficient care with good vet, farrier and peer references are important. If you are a first-time horse owner, we will require you to board at a facility for the first year while you learn more about care. We encourage everyone to take advantage of riding lessons.

Foal adoptions require previous, established experience with youngsters.

Our adoption process makes sure you get the right horse for you – it is a no-fail process for finding the right match.

Apply at https://www.wvhorserescue.org/adopt

PLEASE NOTE: THE INQUIRY FORM ON THIS PAGE IS NOT THE HEART OF PHOENIX ADOPTION APPLICATION
