Zuko's Story

Meet Zuko – Your Loyal Adventure Buddy

Zuko is a 1.5-year-old, 80-pound shepherd mix with a big heart and an even bigger personality. He’s an active, muscular pup who loves to play hard — roughhousing, tug-of-war, and tearing into his favorite toys are some of his daily joys. But after playtime, he’s the first to curl up on the couch or in his bed for a good nap. When he’s ready for affection, he’ll nudge his head into you and plop right down for some love.

Zuko is house trained and knows the command “Wanna go potty?” He’s also crate trained and responds to “Go to crate.” On walks, he does well with guidance and the right collar setup, responding to “Heel” when he needs to refocus. He’s spent the past year in professional training and his current family recommends that his new home continue with them for consistency and a smoother transition.

Zuko has lived with another dog and does well with others when boundaries are respected, but he can be possessive of high-value toys and bones, especially in those first few moments when another dog approaches.

Zuko has shown that he will respect another dog’s space if the toy is already claimed, but he may rush to stake his own claim if the item is unattended. Because of this, and due to his rough play style, he’s not a great fit for doggy daycare or highly social environments with many unfamiliar dogs. His future dog sibling, should be confident and able to set boundaries.

Zuko has had minimal exposure to small children, and because of his size, strength, and tendency to get startled by sudden movement, a home with older children or teens would be more appropriate. His ideal home would include a large, securely fenced yard where he can burn off energy, and an experienced dog owner who’s familiar with large, strong breeds and committed to maintaining consistent training and structure.

Zuko truly is a big love sponge. He’s protective, affectionate, and highly intelligent. He listens to a variety of commands and thrives when he knows what’s expected of him. His current family cares for him deeply and wants nothing more than to see him in a home where his physical and emotional needs will be fully met.

Zuko is up to date on vaccines, vet care, neutered and microchipped.

If you think you might be the right match for Zuko, we’d love to chat further. A meet-and-greet or training demo can be arranged so you can see the incredible dog he is — and just how much potential he has to thrive with the right people.

Submit an application online to meet our boy: https://forms.gle/Z7cmiwieJELte4Ww8

Zuko's adoption fee is $250. What a steal for a fully trained, fully UTD, neutered companion!
