Looking for Her Second Chance<br/>Hi, my name is Zoe.<br/>I'm a sweet, affectionate brown-and-white pittie mix with a gentle heart. My mom rescued me from Animal Care & Control of NYC in 2014 when I was just 10 months old, and we spent the next 11 wonderful years together. Today I'm 12 years old, and for the first time in my life, I'm searching for a new family after losing the person I loved most to cancer.<br/> At the time of my mom's passing, our home also included seven cats. Living with other animals has always been normal for me—we all peacefully coexisted, and I'm very accustomed to sharing my home with both dogs and cats.<br/>Even though I'm officially a senior, I still have plenty of pep in my step. I love attention from my people, enjoy going for walks, happily climb stairs, and still get excited to play with my toys. I'm affectionate, loyal, and happiest when I'm simply spending time with the people I love.<br/>Recently I had a complete veterinary evaluation and I'm current on all of my vaccinations. My veterinarian believes I likely have Cushing's disease, and we're completing additional testing to confirm the diagnosis. If that's the case, it helps explain why I'm always thirsty and hungry, why I need frequent potty breaks, and why I sometimes have accidents in the house despite my best efforts. My current guardian doesn't think this a training issue—it's likely related to my medical condition. It can also make me feel a little anxious from time to time. The encouraging news is that Cushing's disease is often very manageable with medication and regular veterinary monitoring, which can help me continue enjoying a happy, comfortable life for years to come.<br/>Because of everything that's happened and the way my medical condition can affect me, I appreciate a little patience when meeting new people or adjusting to unfamiliar surroundings. Once I have a chance to settle in, my sweet personality shines through. I recently visited a new veterinarian and, despite being a little nervous, I was a very good girl throughout my exam. I even let the veterinarian trim my nails without any fuss because I really do try my best.<br/>My ideal home is with someone who understands senior dogs and is willing to help me manage my medical needs with patience and compassion. A family experienced with senior pets—or a senior dog sanctuary—would be especially wonderful.<br/>Losing my mom has turned my whole world upside down. My dog and cat brothers and sisters are all finding new homes, and now I'm hoping someone will open their heart to me, too. Through no fault of my own, I've lost the only home I've ever known. What I need now is a kind, patient person who can see past my age and my medical condition and recognize the loving companion I still am.<br/>In return, I promise to fill your home with loyalty, companionship, and all the love that's still in my heart. I may be entering my golden years, but I still have so much life to live and so much love left to give.<br/>If you're willing to give a senior girl a second chance, I'd love nothing more than to spend my golden years.
