ZINNIA-OREGON's Story

*PETFINDER INQUIRIES WILL NOT BE ANSWERED. PLEASE COMPLETE OUR ADOPTION APPLICATION AFTER READING HER FULL ADOPTION LISTING. THE ADOPTION APPLICATION IS LOCATED ON OUR WEBSITE: http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application

Meet Charming Zinnia-Oregon, a 4 year old female Goldendoodle, who is in an IDOG foster home in Portland, Oregon.

*Please read ALL the information in Zinnia’s listing before applying to ensure you understand what she needs to be successful in her new home.

*If you would like to be considered as a potential adopter for Zinnia, please complete our adoption application at http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application (copy/paste URL into your browser).

*If you completed an adoption application in the last 6 months & would like for your application to be considered for Zinnia, please email that to us to rescue@idogdoodlerescue.org.

*You must complete our adoption application fully. If you choose not to answer all of the questions in the application, your application will not be considered. We will review your application & email you if you made our short list of applicants for Zinnia. Please respond within 24 hours if you receive an email from us about making our short list.

*You can check the status of her adoption at www.idogrescue.com/adopt or any of our social media pages. We will change her status to adopted when she is adopted.

*We base our adoption decisions on what is in the best interest of our dogs. Please note our adoption policies are in place for the safety and welfare of our dogs. We are all volunteers and have jobs, families, pets of our own to care for. We do the best that we can to get back to you in a timely manner. We believe in taking time to go through our thorough process to try to match the dog with the best fit for that dog.

*You must be approved to adopt Zinnia before we schedule a meet and greet. We do not transport our dogs.

*AGE: approximately 4 years (born approximately December 2021)

*WEIGHT: 92 lbs .(she could lose about 10 lbs. to be at her ideal weight)

*FENCE REQUIREMENT: A physical fence is recommended. No shock collars or invisible fences will be considered, as we do not feel these would set her up for success.

*COAT TYPE: Super soft wavy lower-shedding coat. Adopter should be prepared to brush her coat often and have her groomed regularly with an estimated cost of $150/groom. She was just groomed and her coat is clean and super soft.

*ENERGY LEVEL: Medium energy. She requires daily exercise. She does jump a little when she’s excited/you’re just returning home. She loves fetching and playing with toys. She currently takes 2 walks a day. She does settle and is very content to lay at your feet. She will go to bed when you do. She sleeps on a dog bed in the bedroom.

*DOGS: She previously lived with 2 other dogs with apparently no issues. Currently lives with no other dogs and has met the neighbor dogs and is curious but has not engaged in play. She does not need another dog in the house but may benefit from having a friend. Another calm, well established dog in the house would certainly help her acclimate to the new pack. Like the majority of dogs, she will need some transition time to acclimate to her new home and dogs in the home. She has shown absolutely no aggression towards dogs or people.

*CATS: Unsure of her previous interaction with cats. There are no cats in the foster home. She has pulled on her leash to chase on a few walks.

*KIDS: Yes! Previous caretaker (mom with 2 kids) stated she’s not had any issues. Foster home has no children. She loves getting pets and snuggles and can be a bit rambunctious when excited.

*CAR: She does well in the car!

*CRATE: Her foster tried to crate her and she didn’t like it. We feel she wasn’t accustomed to being in a crate in her prior home and it made her anxious. When her foster mom is out of the house, she is now left to free roam and does great.

*HOUSE TRAINED: Yes!

*LEASH: She walks with a collar or harness. She does a lot of sniffing, especially at the beginning of the walk and can be distracted by cats. She loves taking walks. She has been slightly skittish when she hears a loud noise.

*AT VET: GREAT!

*WITH GROOMING: GREAT! She was very matted and didn’t like her feet being touched but no issues.

Zinnia is a gorgeous 4 year old female Goldendoodle who weighs 92 lbs. (but should be closer to 75). Her owner unexpectedly passed away and her granddaughter’s family took her in for 4 months before surrendering her to IDOG.

Zinnia is a very sweet and exuberant girl. She loves being near you, especially if it involves belly rubs. Her tail is in constant wagging motion when she’s greeting you or she is excited. She will bark if she can see out the window at people/activity/possibly nothing.

She quickly adapted to the foster home and has gotten pretty comfortable (she sneaks on the couch at night or when left alone; we assume she was allowed on the furniture in her previous home). She loves to play fetch with a ball in the back yard.

We ask that you give any rescue dogs time to acclimate – the 3/3/3 rule – 3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months. For 3 days after adoption/transition, the dog may wonder who you are, what the routine is, who the other dogs are. After about 3 weeks, the dog has typically acclimated to your schedule & knows her role in the house. After about 3 months, the dog has revealed their temperament & personality & settled in.

Adjectives that describe Zinnia:
*Friendly
*Cuddly
*Playful
*Adorable
*Sweet
*Excitable
*Loving
*Exuberant
*Snuggly

Activities she enjoys:
-Fetch!!
-Chewing on toys
-Walks
-Snuggles
-Playing

A few “needs work” items for Zinnia:
*Weight loss plan. She is about 15 lbs. overweight.
*Alert barking – she barks at some loud noises, cars driving by, people/dogs on walks
*Learning basic commands - she knows SIT and is working on LAY DOWN (with treats).

Ideal type of home for Zinnia:
-Fenced yard where she is able to run and play.
-Owner who is willing to take her to training to work on basic obedience
-Owner who is able to walk and ensure her exercise needs are met. She’s more medium than high energy; she needs walks and playtime.
-Single family house would be best rather than shared-wall housing due to her alert barking.

Zinnia’s new owner should be ready to put some work in to ensure that Zinnia learns the rules of the new home and sets expectations. She is a really good girl and just needs a bit of work to become the best girl ever!

Zinnia seems like she would do well in any household that can spend time with her and be part of the family. She’ll whine/cry a little bit when a person leaves but recovers quickly. She may need some time to adjust to an additional dog or dogs.

We think she’d benefit from some additional training to build her confidence and hone some of the commands she knows. She’s treat-motivated and takes treats gently.

Zinnia is spayed, microchipped, current on core vaccines and house-trained. She had a wellness vet visit on March 6, 2026. Her heartworm and fecal tests were negative. She has a lipoma on her chest that the vet thought was of no concern. She is on monthly heartworm/flea/tick preventives.

ADOPTION FEE: $650

ADOPTION FEE EXPLANATION:
Puppies & highly adoptable dogs have a higher adoption fee to help IDOG cover the vetting & expenses of the other dogs in IDOG whose adoption fees do not cover their expenses. Our expenses are high these days due to increased vetting expenses, board & train costs, medical/health issues & surgery that is needed for some of our dogs. IDOG relies heavily on donations to bridge the gap between our adoption fees & our expenses. Unfortunately, donations are down across the board for all rescues.

TO APPLY FOR ZINNIA-OREGON, PLEASE COMPLETE THE APPLICATION ON OUR WEBSITE: http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application
