Zia's Story
Zia, our 8 month old 40 pound puppy, is a super-fan of her people. Most dogs are big fans of their family, but Zia would wear those big foam fingers and face-paint if she could. If she's been separated from her favorite humans for any length of time, Zia throws her head back in happy howls and wags her tail so hard she loses her balance. We're so excited to find Zia a permanent person to root for.

Zia was found stray with broken shin bones and, if that wasn't bad enough, severe hip dysplasia. Hip dysplasia causes the ball of the hip to pop out of the socket and can be very painful. Zia's shin bones have healed well. Thanks to the @15/10Foundation for covering Zia's care in its entirety, we were also able to have Zia's hips surgically corrected. Now this re-engineered puppy has a new lease on life.

Zia is a playful, sweet puppy who is wickedly smart. She is food motivated, crate trained, potty trained and quiet in the house, Zia really strives to be a good girl. She's also a puppy who needs guidance and ongoing training. Zia hasn't quite mastered leash manners, for example. Since she's only been alive for 8 months, we'll cut her some slack.

Due to her history of painful hips, Zia can sometimes guard her back end. If she's feeling unsure about sudden touches to her hips, Zia may snap. We put Zia on prozac for this stress and continued her pain medications as needed. It's been fun to see Zia improve so much! She loves to cuddle (especially belly rubs) and make new friends.

Zia has been good with other dogs and dog savvy cats, but she's still learning not to guard her food. Because of this, we don't recommend kids in Zia's home. Her housemates should be patient; if food isn't around, Zia is easy to get along with. Zia's adoption fee, her first training class, and her medications are also all completely covered by @15/10Foundation!

Zia is microchipped and current on her flea and heartworm preventatives.

Are you willing to give a very deserving puppy a chance for a happy life?
