Zelda's Story
Zelda has been a fighter from the very beginning. She came into our care from our friends at a local shelter. She was the kind of dog we simply couldn’t walk away from—the kind who would have stayed on our minds forever. At the time, she was at risk of euthanasia. She had previously suffered a broken pelvis that healed on its own, and she was also pregnant.

We didn’t have every detail of a plan in place, but we knew one thing: we had to help her. One call to a dedicated board member and repeat foster was all it took—we couldn’t even finish explaining before she said yes. And just like that, Zelda’s next chapter began.

Her journey has had plenty of twists and turns (many of which we’ve shared on social media), but today the most important update is this: Zelda is here, she’s thriving, and she’s still adoptable (she has been since March).

Zelda is currently fostered with three other dogs and does beautifully with them. They cuddle, coexist peacefully, play and give each other space—it’s truly heartwarming to see. She forms deep bonds with her people, and once she decides you’re hers, her loyalty is unmatched.

She is potty trained and currently on a consistent schedule. As with any dog transitioning to a new home, there may be a short adjustment period, but with patience and routine, she settles in quickly. She would love to have a canine companion to play with and continue learning the joys of just being a dog but it is not required.

Zelda has an open adoption radius, meaning we are accepting applications from outside our usual three-hour boundary. However, approved adopters must still be willing to travel to Chicago to meet her and finalize the adoption.

If you’re interested in being considered for Zelda, please apply directly. For questions prior to applying, email [adopt@chicagorescueauthority.org].

After everything she’s overcome, Zelda is more than ready for a forever home that matches her strength, resilience, and heart.
