Zaydi's Story

Meet Zaydi: Your New Best Friend and Professional Cuddler

If you’re looking for a "Velcro dog" who will loyally follow you from room to room and shower you with affection, look no further than Zaydi. This sweet, loving soul is the definition of a companion dog—she is happiest whenever she is right by your side.
View Zaydi's album of videos and more photos here https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.871489725501655&type=3

Zaydi was very loved by her previous family who surrendered her due to her owner having a serious back injury and no longer able to care for her. It is an honour to be entrusted with her care.

Zaydi is 7 years young, and a lean 60lbs. Like with any dog, she will require a family who will be able to care for her for the rest of her life, including lifting into the vehicle or assisting her on stairs, if ever needed, as she becomes older.

Personality & Temperament
Zaydi is an incredibly eager-to-please girl with a heart of gold. Whether she’s curling up on the couch for a movie marathon or sleeping soundly in the big bed at night, her goal is simple: to be near her people. She has a medium energy level—she’s always up for a 20-minute stroll or a play session in the yard, but she’s equally talented at the art of relaxation.

Life in the Foster Home
Social Butterfly: Zaydi is a friend to everyone she meets! She is great with new people and has shown no concerning behaviors when meeting other dogs. She currently enjoys playing with her canine foster siblings, large and small, both indoors and in the backyard.

House Manners: She is fully housetrained and has made wonderful progress in her foster home—most notably, she has officially retired from her "career" as a counter surfer!

Routine: While she isn't crated, she handles being left alone for about 4 hours a day without any signs of separation anxiety. She thrives on a consistent schedule and enjoys her time with her people the most.

On the Go: Zaydi is a fantastic passenger! She loves car rides and sits safely in the back seat with her seatbelt, ready for the next adventure.

Skills & Training
Zaydi is a smart girl who is highly food motivated, which makes training a breeze.

Leash Skills: She can be a bit enthusiastic for the first few minutes of a walk and tends to pull, but she settles in beautifully once she gets those binkies out.

Boundaries: She has a very balanced temperament; while she will politely let a high-energy puppy know when they are invading her personal space, she shows no guarding behaviors with food or toys.

Health & Wellness
Zaydi has worked hard to improve her mobility and muscle strength through regular exercise. To keep her feeling her best, her forever family should:
Continue her daily walks to maintain that important muscle tone.
Monitor her rear leg joints and keep an eye on any new lumps as she ages.

Zaydi had a successful CCL repair done by her owner in April 2025 and recovered well. Since coming into our care, we've worked hard on rebuilding her muscle tone and endurance and she is doing much better now!
Zaydi also had two small growths removed, one from her eyelid and one from her lip area.
Results of eyelid growth pathology: Benign melanocytoma
Results of lip growth pathology: Histologic tumor-free margins: Clear; consisting of fibrous connective tissue. Oral melanocytic tumor of low malignant potential.
Vascular invasion: Not observed
Her new family will want to watch for any new growths that develop. Cutaneous melanocytic neoplasia is common in dogs. These growths typically occur in mature dogs with heavily pigmented skin

Zaydi would be a wonderful addition to many different types of homes. She would be perfectly happy as an only dog where she can soak up all the attention, or in a home with other calm canine companions. Her ideal family is one that is home often and looking for a dedicated companion to share their life with. Zaydi would like to mention that she really loves couches and beds and will need a home that allows dogs on furniture.

All inground pools must be fully fenced for safety-no exceptions
Dog doors are not permitted
Adoption Fee $750 -includes vaccinations, microchip, spayed, deworming, flea/tick/heartworm prevention and all vet care, food and supplies during their time with us.

We have also spent quite a lot on Zaydi's growth removal surgery, testing and assessments to ensure that she is a healthy girl before becoming available for adoption.

Reviewing the Profile
Before submitting an application, we kindly ask that you thoroughly review the dog's entire profile. Each of our rescues has unique needs, and we prioritize matching them with families that meet the specific criteria outlined for their "ideal forever home."

The Application Process
To maintain the highest standard of care for our dogs, we follow a structured screening process.

1. Vet Quality of Care Check
2. Zoom Home Inspection & Interview
3. In-Person Meeting in St. Jacobs
Please note that an approved adoption application is required prior to scheduling any meetings. You may access the application form here: https://hobohavenrescue.ca/dog-adoption-application

4. Training Commitment
We require proof of paid registration with an approved, positive-method trainer in a class environment with the family attending, before proceeding with the adoption.
Why we require this:
Our contract terms ensure that dogs are set up for success through training that builds trust, strengthens the bond and sets everyone up for success during the transition and for the future.

Educational Requirement: "Petfooled"
As part of our commitment to "know better/do better," we ask all serious applicants to watch the documentary "Petfooled" (available for free on YouTube or Amazon Prime).

We believe quality nutrition is just as important as love. This documentary explores the pet food industry and the importance of species-appropriate nutrition. It is purely educational and helps ensure our adoptive families are equipped to provide the best long-term health for our dogs.

Meet-and-Greet Policy
All of our dogs reside in private, volunteer foster homes. To respect the privacy and schedules of our foster families—and due to the high volume of inquiries we receive—meetings are only scheduled for applicants who have been fully approved through our screening process.

Next Steps
If you believe your home is a great fit for one of our dogs, please submit your application at the link provided above

We do not allow applicants to visit until pre-approved for adoptions. Our dogs are in private foster family homes, not in a shelter.

Any questions may be emailed to hobohavenpetrescue@gmail.com

Due to the high volume of applications received for our dogs, priority of replies will be given to applicants who meet the criteria mentioned in the pet's profile.

We understand how disappointing in can be if your family is not an ideal match for our dogs , but please understand that our policies are for the dog's best interests first and foremost.
We put a lot of time and effort into carefully assessing each dog's individual temperaments and personalities/needs.

Please do not ask us to make exceptions

Emails are best, our volunteers work full time and are often not able to answer or return phone calls in a timely manner.

Hobo Haven Pet Rescue's Adoption Policy
Hobo Haven Rescue is located in St Jacobs Ontario. Our foster families are within 45 mins of our location. Adoption fees vary depending on the age of the dogs and medical expenses incurred. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate vaccinations, 4DX & blood testing, deworming, dentals if needed, medical treatment or surgery for any concerns, and parasite treatment as needed. For anyone possibly interested in adopting from Hobo Haven, here are a few, but not all, criteria to be aware of: Adoption Application Instructions Please read the following carefully before beginning your application. Our Screening Process: Step-by-Step Please only apply if you are willing to complete every step of this process. 1. Fill in the Canine Adoption Questionnaire below https://hobohavenrescue.ca/dog-adoption-application Form Completion: All questions must be answered for the form to submit. If a question or date does not apply to you, simply enter "N/A." 2. Veterinary Quality of Care Check We require a history of how your past or current pets were cared for. These files are handled in complete confidence. Once reviewed, they are immediately destroyed. Action: If we feel you are a match we will reach out and ask you to contact your vet clinic and ask them to forward a copy of your pet’s medical history to hobohavenpetrescue@gmail.com. 2. Virtual Home Inspection & Interview If the vet check is successful, we will schedule a Zoom home inspection and interview. Requirements: All household members must be present. Format: This must take place during daylight hours using a mobile device so you can show us both your indoor and outdoor living areas. 3. In-Person "Meet and Greet" If the Zoom inspection is approved, we will schedule an in-person meeting in St. Jacobs. If the zoom inspection goes well, our next steps would be 1) an in person meeting with yourselves, your dogs, myself (Chris-Founder/President of Hobo Haven Rescue) and the dog/their foster family in St Jacobs to of course meet in person and see if everyone feels it is a good match Weather permitting we do have a fully secure fenced in area for dog intros and less formal meetings 4. Training Commitment For most of our dogs, we require proof of registration with an approved, positive-method trainer before the adoption is finalized. This ensures a smooth transition and long-term success. 5. Final Adoption Meeting Once proof of training registration is received, we will then coordinate a second and final meeting in St. Jacobs to complete the adoption! A Note to Applicants: We realize our process is thorough and may seem intimidating. However, these dogs rely on us to be their advocates. Our goal is to ensure every dog finds an ideal match and a forever home where they will receive the highest quality of care. Hobo Haven is based in St. Jacobs, Ontario. We do not export or adopt to families outside of Ontario.
