Yuzu's Story

Meet Yuzu! ?
This zesty little girl is full of love, curiosity, and personality. About 6–7 months old, she’s got all the classic puppy energy — but also knows how to melt into your arms and settle in for a good cuddle. She’s one of the snuggliest pups we’ve ever met — she literally melts into you when held.

Yuzu is a social butterfly, befriending dogs, people, kids, strangers — she wants pets, cuddles, and love from everyone. If you’re looking for a pup to take out and about, she’ll be your cheerful little sidekick. She is foxy, cat-like, and loves to be center of attention.

This pocket heeler is just 20 lbs, and likely won’t get much bigger.

She’s ~80% potty trained and uses pee pads when needed. She’s also highly food-motivated and very smart, which makes her a dream to train. She’s already learning quickly and loves working for treats. That being said, she is also a food thief, and will have lots of words to say when you aren't willing to share your pizza.

Her vocalness was what landed her on the shelter euthanasia list: she and her brothers were disrupting the peace. Check out our other adoptable dogs to see Anzu, her littermate who is also looking for a home.

Like many pups her age, Yuzu is still working on crate training — she’s made amazing progress but will need continued patience and consistency as she builds comfort in her crate. She can be vocal when left alone at first, but she’s already learning that her crate is a safe place.

She’s a curious little thing and can wiggle through small fence spaces, so she’ll need close supervision outside, or a secure yard. She does have a double coat like a husky or shiba, and is a shedder.

In true heeler fashion, she communicates through chomps mouth-snappies, both in cheerfulness and irritation when interacting with other dogs. Heelers (otherwise called Cattle Dogs) were originally bred from a wild/primitive dog called the Australian Dingo. Though she is not as intense as a typical heeler, the breed is not for everyone. Please research breed traits if you are not familiar with them already: we will quiz you on them during the application process.

If you’re an active individual missing puppy kisses, couch cuddles, and silly sweet energy — Yuzu is your girl. She’s full of heart, sparkle, and that once-in-a-lifetime kind of love.

We do adopt out of state, including Hawaii, but adopters are responsible for expenses related to transport. She has not been tested with cats or livestock, and will be adopted as an indoor pet only.

TO APPLY - please fill out an adoption application at herdinghomerescue.com/adopt

DO NOT submit an inquiry through petfinder or apply through petfinder: we only accept applications done through our website only.
