Yuki is the kind of dog that makes you want to have a dog. She's a sweet loving dog
who, when meeting her, you'd think has lived a pampered life, but that isn't the case.
Yuki came to WAMAL at under a year old; shortly after being adopted she was
diagnosed with demodectic mange (non-contagious caused by an overgrowth of
mites they typically help keep a dog's skin and coat healthy). In time, it became
apparent the poor Yuki also suffered from allergies. Over the next 4 years, her family
unsuccessfully tried to identify and control the allergies. When her family had to
move out-of-country, Yuki was surrendered back to WAMAL.

The good news for Yuki was that WAMAL and her foster devoted the money and
time necessary to address Yuki's health. After 18 months on a medical hold, for the
first time in her life, Yuki has a lovely, full coat and, with the help of $110 per month in
medication, Yuki is itch free and able to let her personality shine.

If you love Malamutes and want a sweet, talkative, dog who walks well on leash, tells
you when she needs to go out, enjoys car rides, and tolerates showers Yuki may be
the dog for you. There are a few things you should consider when deciding if Yuki is
the dog for you:

Do you have the finances to pay for Yuki's medication to keep her healthy?
Can you meet Yuki's grooming needs? Due to her environmental allergies,Yuki needs a shower (sometimes as often as weekly). She is cooperative once she gets into the shower, but takes some persuading to get her there.
Can you limit Yuki's alone time? Yuki has learned to love her kennel, but she isn't accustomed to being alone in it for more than 4-6 hours couple of times a week. Yuki needs to be in her kennel when you aren't home. With time, she may become comfortable spending more time home alone (in her kennel), but Mals are pack animals and want to be with their family.

Yuki is the kind of dog who makes you really want a dog and a dog who deserves to
live the pampered life her personality makes you think she's lived.

Additional Information:

Yuki comes fully equipped with a nice kennel, high end leash & collar, feeding ball, brushes, ear wash, and shampoo.
Yuki does well with other dogs, including those under 20 pounds, but tends to be jealous of attention given to other dogs so needs her people to be the alpha.
Yuki does not get along with cats.
Yuki is a great guest at backyard BBQs; doesn't try to steal food, but will clean up anything that is dropped.
Yuki has learned how to take turns.
