Yeller's Story

Adoptable Yeller!

We are officially looking for the perfect family for our special boy, Yeller! Yeller is a beautiful young adult lab mix who is approximately 45-50 pounds. He came to Bridge Between Animal Rescue in December 2023 from a rural shelter. He was found as a feral stray with his pal, Jake, who is also in our rescue. Yeller was completely shut down and did not let humans touch him, although he has never shown aggression, just fear. Unlike Jake, Yeller still hasn't been fully rehabilitated. We learned that he was caught as a stray with a catch pole, and we believe the experience really traumatized him. Despite his very rough start to his rescue journey, he has done amazing in foster care. Here are some notes from his foster mom:

"In his foster home Yeller lives with an abundance of different types of dogs: males & females, 3yrs to 9yrs, 30lb to 120lb, submissive to alpha personalities, and he gets along with everyone. In fact, Yeller is required to go to a home with at least one other dog, as another dog makes him build his confidence.

Yeller is fully potty trained, crate trained, and is very well behaved. I very rarely hear him bark and he loves to lay on the couch, in a dog bed, or even sleep in his crate. He is trained to go to his crate for his meals, and he loves that. We have learned that Yeller can jump 6' fences, so it's imperative he goes to a home with a more secure fence.

Although Yeller does not allow you to touch him and I have not been able to successfully get a collar on him, he does enjoy sitting on the couch a few feet from you while you watch tv, he will constantly follow you room to room, but from a distance. It's a relationship with a dog who just wants to social distance at all times, but occasionally he'll surprise you by "booping" you. He is an incredible dog, and I do believe that he will flourish one day, he just takes a lot of time to get used to you. He does enjoy taking treats from your hands and I have successfully touched his feet.

He is the perfect dog for someone who just wants a calm companion at home. He won't be your dog park dog or your restaurant dog, but he'll definitely be a sweet, calm companion that is still so deserving of a loving home and family."

Yeller is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and up to date on prevention. He is sadly heartworm positive, but due to his timidness with people, we chose to do the slow kill method for the heartworms. Yeller's adopters will need to continue with that method of treatment and recheck his status in the near future. If interested in learning more about Yeller or to apply to adopt, please fill out the application found on our website:

BridgeBetweenAnimalRescue.org

(Yeller is located in Charleston, SC).

Our adoption process is as follows: the first step is to submit an application on our website in the "adopt" tab. Then we will need to receive any veterinary records for current or previous pets. Once those are received, we reach out to references, and then set up a home visit and meet and greet for the pet the potential adopter is interested in.
