Yeller's Story
Adoptable Yeller!

Yeller is a beautiful young adult lab mix who is approximately 45-50 pounds. He came to our in December 2023 (Yes, over a year ago!!) from a rural shelter. He was found as a feral stray. Yeller was completely shut down and did not let humans touch him, although he has never shown aggression, just fear. We learned that he was caught as a stray with a catch pole, and we believe the experience really traumatized him. He is a special dog and we know it will take a dedicated family to adopt him. He still doesn't loven human touch and is not able to be leashed, but he is a great dog and would love a home where can enjoy the rest of his days and slowly bond with his forever humans. Here are some notes from his foster mom:

"In his foster home Yeller lives with an abundance of different types of dogs and he gets along with everyone. In fact, Yeller is required to go to a home with at least one other dog, as another dog helps him build his confidence. He is also great with cats.

Yeller is fully potty trained, crate trained, and is well behaved. He loves to lay on the couch, in a dog bed, or even sleep in his crate. He is trained to go to his crate for his meals, and he loves that. He does not walk on a leash due to his fear, so a fenced yard is required. A secure fence (one that is not easy to jump) is required.

Although Yeller doesn't love touch and we haven't gotten a collar on him, he does enjoy human connection, sitting on the couch a few feet from you while you watch tv, or following you room to room, but from a distance. It's a relationship with a dog who just wants to social distance at all times, but occasionally he'll surprise you by "booping" you. He is an incredible dog, and I do believe that he will flourish one day, he just takes a lot of time to get used to you. He does enjoy taking treats from your hands. He has really pushed himself these last few months and has let me pet him more and more. We think that once Yeller is in his forever home, he will continue to push himself out of his comfort zone and bond with his humans. Since I am the foster coordinator for the rescue, he doesn't get as much one-on-one time as he will in his forever home, and that is what it will take for him to flourish.

Yeller is the perfect dog for someone who just wants a companion at home. He won't be your dog park dog or your restaurant dog, but he'll definitely be a sweet, companion that is still so deserving of a loving home and family."

Yeller is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and up to date on prevention. He was sadly heartworm positive, but due to his timidness with people, we chose to do the slow kill method for the heartworms. Yeller's almost due for his recheck so we imagine he will be negative once we test.
