Yayo's Story

Yayo came to ACCT Philly after his owner could no longer care for him due to housing restrictions . His previous family described him as a playful, loving, and protective companion who especially enjoys being around children. Despite recent medical concerns about weight loss, Yayo's affectionate spirit and eagerness for attention have never wavered.

Since arriving, Yayo has been gentle and social with staff and volunteers. He enjoys exploring on walks, leans in for affection, and has quickly become a volunteer favorite for his sweet, calm demeanor. He's housetrained, walks nicely on leash, and has shown a loving, mellow personality.

Videos
Yayo on a day trip: https://youtube.com/shorts/2afift-HFnI?feature=share

Yayo wanting more cuddles: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/fsg0YKxyQ6A

Yayo wasn't quite camera ready: https://youtube.com/shorts/xhLALOT5Mwo?feature=share

Bando and Yayo Meet: https://youtube.com/shorts/cchxp48lqg8?feature=share

Scratches for Yayo: https://youtube.com/shorts/akO7EERGbGU?si=fvIY8qq18hk8B9Cr

Behavioral Notes

10/18/2025 per staff:
Sweet old man. He had soft eyes and neutral ears/tail. Yayo was head shy for leash. He would stand at the front but move slightly back when I tried to put the leash over him. I offered him a cookie to sniff and slide the leash over his head with my other hand.

Leash Skills: Yayo walks well on leash.

Sociability: Yayo is mostly aloof and seems to enjoy sniffing/exploring. He did jump on me once or twice while walking. He knows sit and will accept a treat gently but did not eat them. He would chew and spit it out. In the yard he would come when called but get easily distracted. He did allow petting all over with some lip licking and a low level tail wag. He would lean in. When I got a good spot, he even jumped in my lap briefly.

Play: No interest.

Dog Interaction: N/A.

Return to Kennel: When we returned to the kennel, Yayo allowed me to clip his leash with no issue.
