Xena (Belle)'s Story

You may remember the emaciated stray wandering near New Ken Sheetz back in January. Some selfless volunteers refused to let her die in the elements and after countless hours were able to finally secure her. The community rallied around this broken little body, quickly raising enough money to have her cared for at the emergency vet. She was dehydrated, extremely anemic, had a raging infection, and was skin and bones.

But warriors don't give up.

She was named Xena -- warrior princess -- because we knew she had a battle ahead of her. And true to her name, she fought with everything she had. Thanks to the incredible volunteers who refused to let her die in the cold, and this amazing community who raised the funds for her emergency care, Xena got her second chance.

Fast forward just six weeks from that terrifying January day, and Xena was back on her feet. Today, she knows what it feels like to be warm, fed, safe... and loved.

We don't know much about her past, but we know it wasn't kind. She's spent her recovery in a devoted foster home surrounded by other dogs, and she's done beautifully with them all. In fact, other dogs are her safe place. Because of her timid nature and lack of confidence, Xena will require a home with an established, confident dog to help guide her. Cats are still an unknown.

She's extremely sweet and just wants to be close to her people. She has some separation anxiety and will need a home where someone is around more often than not. She's caught on quickly to house training and is learning that the crate isn't so scary -- though she'll still let you know she'd rather be with you.

Xena has shown some fear-based reactivity, particularly when men enter a room she's already in, though this has improved greatly as she's learned to feel safe. Now, she'll happily cuddle on the couch with her foster family. Because she's still building confidence, we don't believe a home with small children would be the best fit.

This little girl wants so desperately to love and be loved. She just needs patience. Understanding. A calm, steady home that will let her continue to blossom at her own pace.
From skeletal stray to cherished survivor -- Xena's journey has been nothing short of incredible. Now she's ready for her forever family.

If you think you could be the safe haven this warrior princess has been waiting for, please reach out. Let's find Xena the happy ending she deserves. 🐾💙

Please reach out to meet her as she is in a foster home!

📝 Adoption Application:
https://form.jotform.com/213275062626049
📧 adoptions@animalprotectors.net
📞 (724) 339-7388
