Xander's Story

ATTENTION: All of our dogs are in private foster homes. We do NOT have a kennel with multiple dogs. If you find a dog you want to meet in person, please go to www.secondchancedogrescue.org and complete an application. We will make every attempt to process all applications within 3 business days of receipt.

// // Meet Xander

He is a 1year old, 76 lb. Shepherd mix. Xander is a strikingly handsome boy with an incredibly sweet and affectionate personality. If you’re looking for a loving companion who wants to be by your side, Xander may be your guy. He is cuddly, affectionate, and genuinely loves his people.

Xander has been doing wonderfully in his foster home and is showing us just how smart and eager to learn he is. He is potty trained, does well when left home alone, and has made great progress learning basic manners like “sit” and “down.” He is still working on keeping all four paws on the floor and not putting his front paws up on counters, doors, and other tempting surfaces. He’s a big, enthusiastic boy, so he’ll need a patient adopter who is willing to continue working with him on his manners. We’re confident that with consistency and positive reinforcement, he’ll pick things up quickly.

Xander does great with other dogs and enjoys going on walks. He is a very nice leash walker and loves getting out and exploring. He is also an excellent car rider! He happily jumps into the car, settles into his car seat, and lays down while looking out the window like a seasoned road-trip buddy.

One of Xander’s biggest areas of focus right now is food. He is still a little underweight and is VERY excited about mealtime. He is not aggressive, but he is extremely eager when food is involved. He does not like to be touched while he is eating, so his adopter will need to continue helping him build patience and good food manners. He has not shown any interest in stealing people food from the counter, even though he is tall enough to reach it!

Because of his size and his enthusiasm around food, we recommend a home without very young children. Xander has done wonderfully with the foster family’s 10-year-old son, but we think older children who understand how to give a dog space while eating would be the best fit.

Xander is a big, beautiful, loving dog who has so much potential. He is smart, affectionate, social, and eager to be part of a family. He doesn’t need a perfect home, just a patient one that will continue helping him learn and grow. In return, you’ll get an incredibly sweet companion who is ready to give you plenty of love. He is neutered and up to date on vaccinations. His adoption fee is $300.

All Second Chance Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, are up to date on vaccines and have microchips prior to adoption.

Adoption fees vary depending on age of dog. Fees help Second Chance Dog Rescue cover spay/neuter costs,

vaccinations, medical treatments,

food and supplies. Please go to

www.secondchancedogrescue.org

and complete an application today!

All dogs live in private foster homes until they are adopted.
