WV mixbreed-Otis's Story

March 2005-update- WHAT A HISTORY - this sweet little dog has! After receiving an email plea in Oct. that 90 animals were to be gassed, we got 3 dogs and 25 cats from a shelter in West Virginia that was closing. Otis traveled for 2 days in a little crate and when he finally arrived in Boston, he was shaking from head to toe but so happy to have a bit of attention! He settled in nicely at the Animal hospital where he was staying with his WV pals, never any trouble, always appreciative. Our little friend was adopted by a seemingly upstanding person of Milton, MA. DAYS LATER, Henry, the Norwood Animal Control Officer picks up a dog running loose only to find our little WV doggie! Incredible coincidence that Henry and 2nd chance use the same vet, and Henry knew of Otis since he took 1 of our 3 WV dogs to the empty Norwood shelter since he was lonely. Right away, the Animal Hospital called the adopter to check on the dog(after they had him safely back), only then-he sheepishly admitted to losing the dog. This "man" who blamed the dog-not himself, emailed this about losing him,"he wandered away. I opened the door... accidentally dropped the leash(the dog was found with no leash on). Of course I felt bad about losing (him),but dogs do run away from time to time. Isn't that why he was in a shelter to begin with?" So it's the dog's fault for taking off-WHAT A SMART DOG! How he got from Milton to be found by our friend in Norwood is a mystery and a MIRACLE. This story could have had a heart-breaking end, but Otis is safe, now in a foster home in Weston, enjoying the family he's staying with. They have small children, cats and dogs and they say he gets along with everyone. UPDATE-Otis finally ended his journey in central Mass, adopted by a loving young couple who think he's adorable and know he's a total sweetheart who's been through hell-of which we don't even know the half. We're so glad to have had the chance to save his life and meet his inspiring spirit!
