Wookie 's Story

Meet Wookie (“Wookie the Electric Cookie”)

A Party on Four Legs with a Big Heart
Wookie is a 3-year-old, 8.5-pound scruffy charmer who is currently thriving in a busy foster home with multiple dogs and multiple people. His foster lovingly describes him as “a party on four legs” — friendly, affectionate, and full of joyful energy.

Wookie truly loves people and is quick to share his affection. He’s happy to curl up on the couch for cuddles and belly rubs, but when the household gets moving, he’s right there too — following along, staying involved, and enjoying being part of the action. He tends to match the energy of the home: calm when things are quiet, social and engaged when there’s activity.

He is:
-Crate trained
-able to be left uncrated in the home
-Largely house trained (some mild marking early on, likely due to adjusting to a multi-dog environment with lots of scents; not considered a significant concern)

Wookie gets along well with dogs his size and larger. His foster observed mild dominance behavior once or twice with a very small (4-lb) Chihuahua, but nothing concerning overall. He has not yet been tested with cats, other animals, or children under six, so those remain unknowns.

No fearful or anxious behaviors have been observed, and his foster has not reported any issues such as excessive barking, guarding, snapping, or reactivity.

He’s described as social, emotionally stable, and very people-oriented.
Wookie has a medium energy level. He enjoys lounging with his humans, but he also likes being part of the action and joining in when his dog friends are playing. His foster has shared that while he’s doing wonderfully in a lively household, he may become bored as a single dog in a very quiet home where people are gone most of the day.

He is motivated by treats and hasn’t had formal training yet, but based on his behavior in the home, his foster believes he is very trainable. He may need some continued work on polite greetings, as he sometimes jumps up simply because he’s so eager for affection — a behavior that responds well to gentle, consistent guidance.

Safety Policy Regarding Dog Doors
Because Wookie is a small dog, we are not able to consider homes with dog doors. This policy is based on real safety concerns we have encountered with small dogs, including the risk of escape, predators, and theft, and is intended to prioritize his long-term safety

New Hope Animal Rescue NFP 's Adoption Policy
We verify references for our fosters and volunteers to make sure our rescued animals have the best care while waiting for their forever homes. Likewise, we ask any potential adopter fill out and submit our adoption application prior to scheduling a meet and greet with a pet in a foster home. This does not obligate you to adopt, but it is the first step towards being added to our approved list of adopters. Applicants are approved pending vet reference and personal reference checks, and a home visit. All current animals in the home must be spayed/neutered, current on age-appropriate vaccines as well as heartworm and flea prevention and any information provided on an application will be verified. Thank you for your patience with our process! We are grateful you are looking to adopt your next pet.
