Wonka's Story

Who wouldn’t want a chocolate, Lab? That’s what Wonka wants to know. Well, everyone knows Labs can make excellent family dogs. They are known for their friendly, playful, and intelligent nature. I think you could expect the same from Wonka if you were to give him a rest of his life home.

Wonka is a neutered male Labrador Retriever weighing a too hefty 89 lbs. He needs to lose some of that for his own good. He is here because he was abandoned by his owner. We are estimating his age to be around 5 or 6 years old.
Would you like a dog that already walks nicely on a leash. That would be Wonka and despite all his weight. So, enjoy your walks from the get-go and Wonka is loving to go for walks.

I believe he is house trained. When I first got him out the door and onto the grass, he must have peed for 3 minutes. Seriously! Just be patient with him and give him a little time to adjust to a new home and environment.

Please watch his video on Petfinder and see what he is like off leash. Mostly what he did was hang by the gate wanting me to put the slip lead back on and continue our walk. ? I would describe his energy level as low to medium. So, with his age you are going to get a more laid back, easy-going, calm demeanor kind of dog.
Please don’t let his years put you off. He has many, many years left to make a lucky someone a loving and loyal companion. Please give Wonka a chance and you won’t be sorry. He will win you over.

Please fill out an adoption application at www.cedar-rapids.org/animal. Once the application is approved, you will be able to meet with the dog you want to see. All animals in the home must be sterilized and current on a rabies vaccination.

The spay/neuter surgery is included in the adoption fee of $125. * We always prefer that our animals go to indoor homes. *OWNING a pet is a lifetime commitment! Please be ready to make that commitment before you adopt a pet! *
BREED DISCLOSURE: Due to the fact that most of our adoptable pets are strays, we cannot guarantee their breed. We list the pets breed as the one that best matches the physical appearance, temperament, and personality of the animal-in some cases it's purely a guess. The pet may also be listed as a mix when it’s actually a purebred.
