Winston's Story

<p>Breed: Lab/Newfoundland Age: 2 years (estimate) Neutered and up-to-date on shots Housetrained and loves to just hang out and snuggle. Check out this handsome guy!!! Winston is as sweet and loyal as they come. He was dropped off as a stray at a shelter in rural WV, where he was very very scared, including avoiding the volunteers when they went in to clean his kennel and give him food and water. Winston quickly realized that they were the "good ones", he licked their faces and loved on them. :-) Winston's right ear was swollen shut and his right eye was in bad shape too, which is probably why he was grumpy upon arrival at the shelter. He is NOW much better... after treatment. He will sit and give paw and takes treats very gently. He is working on walking nicely on the leash, is fully vetted and is ready to move on with his life. We had a professional behaviorist evaluate Winston and she was very impressed with how well-behaved he is and recommends him being adopted by a family without young children and that they must very dog experienced and savvy. Winston bonds quickly to his family, is super loyal and becomes very protective. His new family will need to be very careful when people visit the home and while out in public. When at home, Winston should be placed in a separate room or wear a soft, mesh muzzle, which still allows him to drink and eat, until he is comfortable with visitors. He should wear the muzzle while out in public too.
